Marketing!

I have been busy preparing marketing material for Country Pix Photohgraphy! I have created brochures, magnets and a new facebook timeline.I have also been working on other administration paperwork, however I won't bore you with any of that!

I am starting an E-Course on Blog Design and from memory I think it has other web related information contained in it also. Watch this space as my blog may get 'revamped' soon :-)

MOJO

I'd lost my photo mojo. I think it is as a result of being busy and tired. I was tired, like bone tired, and when I get like that I can't see the forest for the trees, so nothing inspired me to reach for the camera. I still took it with me, however not one pic was taken for over a week. It was disheartening, depressing and detrimental for my confidence.

That sunset certainly aided my mojo to return!

Photography group met in Mt Isa Saturday night at the observatory. It was a fantastic outing and all who came along thoroughly enjoyed themselves. It was incredible being able to look through powerful telescopes and see Jupiter and its three moons, as well as Saturn. All the canon users were able to attach their cameras to the telescope and take photos of the other planets. The astonomer man uses a canon camera so he had an adaptor. So us Nikon users missed out :-( Never mind, an adapter is on the wish list and I am hopeful to get one before our next outing there!

Thank goodness for bullbars!

Coming home the other day I hit a wallaby. I had absolutely no chance of missing it as it came out of the scrub a million miles an hour. It hit our bullbar. Thankfully we had a bullbar otherwise we would have had a very badly damaged front end! In fact, the wallabt hit so hard it dinted the bullbar and shifted it about 6 inches to the right! That meant that the end of the bullbar, the part that curves around to the wheel arch on the passenger side, was rubbing on the tyre, whenever we hit a bump. The road we were travelling was VERY bumpy! Luckily we came across my F-I-L! He had been minding the place for us whilst we were at the wedding and the funeral. We were both driving home on the same day, on the same road! Mr Fabulous hooked a 'snatch'n'strap' to the left side of our bullbar and connected it to the centre upright of F-I-L's bullbar. He then put our car into reverse, whilst the other car remained stationary, and 'pulled' the bullbar back across the car so that the tyre wouldn't rub. Here are a couple of shots of the damaged bullbar.

May 8th

Well I knew it had been awhile since I wrote, however I hadn't anticipated that it was THAT long ago!

Its been so long I don't even know where to start!

I do know that we've been busy- very busy. We are managing the worst drought that Mr Fabulous has lived through. We have destocked by approximately 48 deck (that's about 8 road trains) since mid February. So whilst our coastal counterparts have been whinging about the rain, we've been praying for it. It seems the Great Dividing Range lived up to its name this year and clearly divided Queensland into wet and dry areas.

We had a wedding to attend a couple of weeks ago. Mr fabulous was Best Man. It was a lovely day and we saw two of our best friends 'get hitched'. I am still working on some pics, so watch this space! Here is a sneak peak though




Unfortunately, the night before the BIG day, my Grandfather passed away. I did get to see him whilst we were 'on the coast' before he slipped into a never ending dream, which I will be forever grateful for. The day after the wedding, we went to my in-laws place and we stayed there until the burial. This gave us some time to relax and for me to take photos. We went to Josephine Falls one day, which is where I spread my Fathers ashes. This pic is taken from the base of 'Dad's tree'.

Whilst at Julatten, I was lucky enough to tag along to my MIL's photography group day. It was at a passsionfruit farm in the Daintree and it was stunning! Here are a few of my favourite shots of the day.







Yesterday, on our home we picked up a new dog. We added a female red kelpie to our doggy family. She is approximately 7mths old and is settling in to the Caleewa way of life very well. We named her Opal and I think she likes her new humans.

Wow! What a week (almost) its been.

Last Friday, the 15th, Mr Fabulous and I went mustering as we were 'supposed' to be trucking cattle at lunch time. We hit the paddock at sunrise and had the cattle in the yards around 8am. Once we were at the yards, MF found a leaking water pipe that caused a huge puddle right where the road train would have to park whilst loading the cattle. On any other soil type, that wouldn't be an issue. However, water on black soil turns to the stickiest mud that 'sucks' you in. The heavier the weight, the further you get sucked in!! So, we raced home and MF drove the truck to the yards, whilst I ambled along in the tractor. When I arrived with the tractor, MF started covering the water with dirt- ALOT of dirt to try and soak up the water. After he'd made quite a few large mounds of dirt, he proceeded to level it and compact it down. Once he'd done that, he drove over it a few time in the tractor and then attempted to drive over it in the truck. The truck sunk and got bogged! I hopped into the truck and he hopped into the tractor to tow me out. He then recommenced piling more dirt onto the area. This process took a couple of hours and when we were happy enough, that is when our truck could drive over it without sinking, we attended to the cattle work.

The truck was due at 12pm. We finished work at 11.45am. Fabulous timing! So, we sat and had a bite to eat and a well deserved drink of water and waited. And we waited. And we waited. At 1.30pm we thought we should come home and check to see if there were any phone messages. There weren't. We then tried to ring a few people to see if they knoew anything about the truck that was supposed to show up. We were concerned that there had been an accident. I couldn't get a hold of anyone. So, we decided to go and wait at the 'truck turn off' into our property. We waited until 3pm. We drove home again. Again there were no messages. This time when we rang around, we managed to contact someone. The truck company booked us in for the WRONG day! How very annoying! We had to let the cattle out of the yards. Poor girls, being worked when there was no need.

Saturday was another morning of mustering and yard work. Sunday was an easier day, but it still involved a bit of cattle work.

Yesterday morning we moved cattle from one paddock into another that has fresher feed. Then we went to our other property and checked on the cattle over there. That property has had even less rain then we have had and things are pretty bad there. We are having to supplement feed the cattle over there.

In amongst all this, I was asked to take pics of friends pets. This couple is getting married in 5 weeks and they want photos of their pets on their bridal table. Here are two of my favourites




We went to a waterhole on our property this morning for sunrise. I made coffee for me and breaky frittata's for us to have whilst there. It was a beautiful clear morning and the colours in the sky were amazing. It was also a tad disappointing as there were no birds (yesterday there were pelicans on this waterhole) and the flies were ridiculous! I couldn't believe how many flies there were at 6am! They were so thick that we decided not to eat breaky down there! I did manage to get some good shots though

Fun

Monday morning Mr Fabulous and I went for a drive around the back of one of our paddocks. Right out the back, where I hadn't been before. It was lovely. This area has such a lovely 'feel' to it. It has the 'Gilliat Channels' running through and thanks to some heavy rain South of us, there is a fair amount of water in some of the waterholes. Behind all the channels is beautiful green grass and lovely gum trees. There is that much grass out there that we decided that we would push all the cattle that we have in that particular paddock, through the channels and onto the green feed. We did that yesterday.

Some of the cattle fought us a bit, they didn't want to leave the trough that was full of water. This indicates to us that they didn't know about the water in the channels, so they definitely wouldn't know about the beautiful green grass. Once we managed to get all the cattle to the main channel of water, where the grass is the best, we left them to it!

We took the dogs for a swim and play in the water and they had a great time. This is taken before work. They are all so eager!

Apparently I haven't written anything since 22nd Feb. That's a little over two weeks. WOW! It actually feels longer than that. I had to count how far back the 22nd February was. It was 17 days ago. I cannot believe how much has happened in 17 days!

We have been under an umbrella out here is Northwest Queensland.



This area of this paddock is usually full of fresh green grass at this time of year. We have had a few little storms, but no wet season. As a result we have sold a fair amount of cattle. We want to keep what grass we have for our breeders.

We completed first round last week also. Four men processed 1279 calves in three days! They worked like soldiers! It was a big few days, but gee we enjoy it!

I also picked up a little photography job! Friday is our day to go to town, run errands and have lunch at the pub. When we arrived last Friday, the publican asked if I could take some photos of the pub as it is for sale. So, I happily obliged! We got to eat and drink for free as payment. Not bad as we both love a drink! I will be sending all the pics to the real estate agent tomorrow on USB. I tried emailing them through however my satellite is a bit old now and it doesn't cope with large files!
